2nd Star – Dale Hawerchuk of the Winnipeg Jets

In an ugly 10-2 blowout win at Maple Leaf Gardens, Dale Hawerchuk led the Winnipeg Jets with three goals and two assists for five points. He had a goal in each period while assisting on two markers by Paul MacLean. Hawerchuk led with seven of the 39 shot put on Toronto goalie Michel Larocque. Bunny was left in for the duration, allowing all ten goals. Dave Babych of the Jets was a +7 in the game.

1st Star – Wilf Paiement of the Quebec Nordiques

Another five point performance, Wilf Paiement one-ups Hawerchuk in that two of his three goals were scored shorthanded. In a 9-3 beatdown of the Chicago Blackhawks at Le Colisee, Paiement scored his first of the game and 20th of the season shorthanded at 8:38 of the second, unassisted. This goal made the score 4-2 for the Nordiques and held as the game winner.

After scoring his second goal at 12:04 of the third, again unassisted, Paiement scored the hat trick goal and his second shortie of the night with just six seconds left on the clock, assisted by Michel Goulet. He added assists on goals by Goulet and Pierre Aubry for the five point game. Wilf was responsible for seven of the 34 shots put on Chicago goalie Murray Bannerman.
