3rd Star – Lanny McDonald of the Calgary Flames
In a 4-1 victory over a stronger Buffalo Sabres team at the Stampede Corral, Lanny McDonald had a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the game. Lanny scored both of his goals in the second period, his 32nd and 33rd of the 1981-82 NHL season. Both were scored on Don Edwards and both were assisted by Mel Bridgman and Paul Reinhart. McDonald’s first would remain as the game winner. Lanny added the assist on a Reinhart goal into the empty net with four seconds left in the game.
Calgary goalie Pat Riggin deserves honourable mention, making 35 saves on 36 shots in the win.

Buy on Amazon2nd Star – Dale Hawerchuk of the Winnipeg Jets
In an ugly 10-2 blowout win at Maple Leaf Gardens, Dale Hawerchuk led the Winnipeg Jets with three goals and two assists for five points. He had a goal in each period while assisting on two markers by Paul MacLean. Hawerchuk led with seven of the 39 shot put on Toronto goalie Michel Larocque. Bunny was left in for the duration, allowing all ten goals. Dave Babych of the Jets was a +7 in the game.
1st Star – Wilf Paiement of the Quebec Nordiques
Another five point performance, Wilf Paiement one-ups Hawerchuk in that two of his three goals were scored shorthanded. In a 9-3 beatdown of the Chicago Blackhawks at Le Colisee, Paiement scored his first of the game and 20th of the season shorthanded at 8:38 of the second, unassisted. This goal made the score 4-2 for the Nordiques and held as the game winner.
After scoring his second goal at 12:04 of the third, again unassisted, Paiement scored the hat trick goal and his second shortie of the night with just six seconds left on the clock, assisted by Michel Goulet. He added assists on goals by Goulet and Pierre Aubry for the five point game. Wilf was responsible for seven of the 34 shots put on Chicago goalie Murray Bannerman.
