1971-72 O-Pee-Chee NHL

1971-72 o-pee-chee 45 ken dryden rookie hockey card montreal canadiensThe 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee set consists 264 hockey cards. The Topps sister set is half the size at 132 cards and is missing such gems as the Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne rookie cards.

The Ken Dryden rookie card is the highlight of the 1971-72 set, with Lafleur and Dionne not far behind in importance. Of course, the Bobby Orr card ranks high in monetary value, as always.

Also a feature in this set are two retirement cards. The careers of both Gordie Howe and Jean Beliveau are commemorated with special cards, in the O-Pee-Chee set only. Both were fast-tracked to the Hockey Hall of Fame, without the usual three waiting period. However, Howe’s was premature as he returned to Hockey for the 1973-74 season, playing in the World Hockey Association until the league was swallowed by the NHL, then playing one more season in the National Hockey League in 1979-80 with the Hartford Whalers.

  1. Hi, I have a set of what looks like punch out stickers of team emblems and one is the NHL logo. there is 15 total. can you tell me what year and which set this may have come from and the possible value? I think they came with opeeche cards from this era. thank you.

  2. Hi, I have a set of 15 cards that 14 are team emblems and one is the NHL crest. I think they came in with collector card packs around 1971. Can you give me any info on these cards. They appear to be a cut out or punch out sticker. Thank you…..Jim
